I gave my dog magic mushrooms and then he ran away
It all started as a bizarre experiment, one that I now deeply regret. I had heard stories online about people consuming magic mushrooms and experiencing life-changing trips. Out of curiosity, I wondered what would happen if my dog, Max, tried them. I realize now this was a reckless and dangerous idea, but at the time, I convinced myself it would be harmless.
The Curiosity That Led to a Risky Decision
My curiosity about psychedelics had grown over the years. I had read articles, watched documentaries, and even tried them myself in controlled settings. One afternoon, I noticed Max sniffing around my stash of psilocybin mushrooms. A reckless thought crossed my mind: what if Max could experience the world in a different way, just as I had?
Administering the Mushrooms
Without considering the consequences, I crumbled a small piece of a mushroom into his food. Max, as always, devoured his meal without hesitation. There was a moment of guilt, but I brushed it off, thinking the dose was too small to have any real effect. I watched him closely, half-expecting nothing to happen.
The Strange Behavior Begins
Within an hour, Max’s behavior started to change. He paced around the living room, his tail wagging slowly. His eyes looked unusually wide and alert. He jumped at sounds, barked at shadows, and seemed disoriented. I realized, with growing horror, that the mushrooms were affecting him far more than I anticipated.
Panic and Escape
As the effects intensified, Max became increasingly agitated. He scratched at the door, whined, and eventually managed to slip out when I opened it to check on the noise outside. Before I could react, he bolted down the street, running faster than I’d ever seen him move. My heart pounded as I chased after him, calling his name, but he was already out of sight.
The Search for Max
I spent hours searching the neighborhood, asking neighbors, and calling animal shelters. The guilt was overwhelming. I realized I had put Max in danger for the sake of curiosity and experimentation. The thought of him lost, frightened, and possibly hallucinating haunted me.
Reflections on Responsibility
Looking back, I understand the gravity of my actions. Psychedelic substances are not meant for animals. They can cause severe distress, health issues, and unpredictable behavior. My experience with Max taught me a hard lesson about the importance of responsibility and the dangers of treating animals as experiments for human curiosity.
